After a three-month search across two continents, this Competition Package M3 was worth every mile. Here’s how we made it happen.
When our client came to us looking for an E46 M3, he had a very specific vision: Interlagos Blue, Competition Package, six-speed manual, and absolutely no modifications. Oh, and under 60,000 miles with complete service documentation.
We told him it would take time. He told us he’d been looking for three years.
The Hunt
These specifications immediately ruled out 95% of surviving E46 M3s. The Competition Package was a limited run, and most have been modified, tracked, or accumulated significant miles. Finding one in this condition is like searching for a very specific needle in a very large haystack.
We started with our domestic network—collectors, BMW specialists, and CCA members who might know of a car matching our criteria. Several promising leads went cold. A few cars looked right in photos but revealed hidden stories upon closer inspection.
Then we got a tip about a car in Germany.
The Discovery
A second-owner example, originally delivered in Munich, with 54,000 kilometers and a service binder three inches thick. Every oil change, every inspection, every minor repair—documented. The car had been garage-kept by an older enthusiast who was finally ready to part with it.
We flew out to inspect it personally. It was exactly as described—better, actually. The kind of car that makes you wonder if it’s been driven at all.
The Delivery
Six weeks later, after handling import logistics, compliance, and a full detail, we handed over the keys. Watching our client’s face as he settled into the driver’s seat reminded us exactly why we do this.
Some cars are worth waiting for. This was one of them.
